On August 28, 2020, at the virtual National Training Conference of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP), Martyn Robert Redgrave, a direct descendent of Henry Martyn Robert and President of the Robert's Rules Association, custodian of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, led a formal ceremony in which the 11th edition of RONR was retired, and the 12th edition put into effect. From that time, any organization that has adopted "the latest edition of Robert's Rules of Order" as its parliamentary authority is under the new edition of RONR. If you haven't yet purchased the new revision for use in your organization, I strongly encourage that you do so.

Along with the new 12th edition of the complete work, a third edition of Robert's Rules of Order, In Brief was introduced. The In Brief title is the only brief summary of RONR that is authored by the same authorship team as the complete work. It provides a solid summary of parliamentary procedure for most ordinary members of deliberative assemblies that use RONR. I keep copies on hand to give to clients and persons who are interested in improving their use of parliamentary procedure in meetings.

The latest edition includes updates and clarifications to the rules that have shown themselves to be needed through the use of the book since the 11th edition was first published in 2010. Perhaps most helpful, the new edition has important new rules for electronic meetings, which many organizations have had to use during the pandemic of the last year.

The Robert's Rules Association keeps up a continuous correspondence with end users to answer questions and interpret the rules. This practice continues the work that General Robert began during his lifetime, and passed to the Association that has carried the work forward since his death in 1923.
